This book is about the violence that church authorities can cover up with the rhetoric of "paternal care." Andrei Kuraev demonstrates that throughout the history of Orthodoxy, both the justification of forced faith and the practice of violence existed, and that this was not an accidental aberration, but part of the system itself. At the same time, the author, who was a professor at the Moscow Theological Academy before his forced exile, is convinced that even within the Orthodox tradition, a person can choose for themselves whether to follow a "theology of hatred" or remain on the side of a "theology of love."
