Theater and film actor Maxim Sukhanov and historian Irina Shcherbakova will present the upcoming audiobook version of "Papa's Letters." The printed edition was published in Moscow in 2014. The book contains letters from fathers in the Gulag to their children—letters that were nearly impossible to write, send, deliver, and preserve.
Irina Shcherbakova, a member of the board of the International Association Memorial and chair of the board of Zukunft-Memorial (Berlin), will discuss this family conversation, which unfolded amidst a break with normal human life—letters from fathers to their children and wives—and the importance of family archives today, when communication with loved ones is increasingly difficult, and albums and belongings are left in hastily abandoned apartments.
Maxim Sukhanov will read excerpts from the book.
