In 2023, writers Sergei Lebedev and Zhenya Berezhnaya each completed work on their own manuscript.
Lebedev's "White Lady" is a novel about the events in Donbass in July 2014, which led to a major war, and about the terrible memory that was hushed up in the region for decades. Berezhnaya's "(Not) About War" is an autofiction about the experience of being a refugee, the impetus for the creation of which was precisely the beginning of this major war, the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
In 2024, both novels were published by Meduza. At the Berlin Book Fair, the writers will discuss how personal, particularly traumatic, experience is transformed into fiction, and how fairy tales and mythology help talk about the real evil that is happening right now before our eyes.
