The poetry magazine “Vozdukh” has been published in Moscow since 2006 and has become one of the central projects for the development of Russian poetry.
By 2022, the magazine had published poems by 587 Russian authors, works by many notable foreign poets, poetry prose, numerous articles and surveys, and the book chronicle section had published short reviews of many hundreds of poetry collections in Russian. 96 books were published in the book supplement to the magazine.
With the start of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, the publication of the magazine was stopped and resumed in 2024 in Latvia. The first meeting of the updated edition with readers took place last summer in Berlin's Babel with the participation of Maria Stepanova, Inna Krasnoper and Andrey Ditzel.
At the fair, the Latvian issues of Vozdukh will be presented by Demyan Kudryavtsev, Maksim Goryunov and Mikhail Nemtsev, and the audience will also get acquainted with new books from the revived book series of the magazine. Translator Mark Belorusets will participate in the meeting.
The meeting will be hosted by the editor-in-chief of Vozdukh, philologist, translator and poet, laureate of the Andrei Bely Prize, Dmitry Kuzmin.
Mark Belorusets Born in 1943 during evacuation in the Urals. Lived in Kyiv, worked as a civil engineer for over 30 years, was close to the circle of Ukrainian dissidents. Since 1978, he has been published as a translator of German and Austrian poetry and prose into Russian. He was awarded the Andrei Bely Prize (2008) for his translations of Paul Celan, and has also translated Georg Trakl, Robert Musil, Gottfried Benn, Günther Eich, Manes Sperber, Herta Müller, Herta Kreftner and many others. Twice winner of the Austrian Republic Prize. Lives in Berlin.
Maxim Goryunov Born in Uman, graduated from the Philosophy Department of Moscow State University. Taught at the Higher School of Economics, published as an essayist and publicist. In 2018–2022, he lived in Minsk and hosted the intellectual and publicistic program “IdeaX” on the Belarusian Euroradio.
He made his debut as a poet in 2019 in the magazine "Air", in 2020 the book of poems "Geopolitical Lyrics" was published, in 2025 - the second collection "Listening to British Night Radio".
Demyan Kudryavtsev Born in Leningrad, lived in Israel since the age of 19, studied philology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and was co-editor of the first Russian literary magazine on the Internet, EYE. For many years, he was involved in the media business in Russia: from 2006 to 2012, he was the CEO of the Kommersant publishing house, and from 2015 to 2020, he was the owner of the Vedomosti newspaper. He published his first book of poetry in 1991 in Jerusalem, his second, The Practice of Russian Verse, was published in 2002 in Moscow, followed by five more (the last, The Defeat Zone, was published in 2023 by Freedom Letters); the novel Twins (2008) was also published. Lives in Latvia.
Dmitry Kuzmin Born in Moscow, graduated from Moscow State Pedagogical University, PhD in Philology. Organizer of the Union of Young Writers "Babylon" (1991), creator of the Internet library "Babylon" (1996), editor-in-chief of the publishing house "ARGO-RISK" specializing in contemporary poetry (1993-2022), the first Russian almanac of LGBT literature "RISK" (1995-2002), the first almanac of Russian haiku "Triton" (2000-2003), the poetry magazine "Air" (since 2006), compiler of the anthologies "Nestolitschnaya literatura" (2001), "Osvobozhdennyi Ulysses: Russian poetry outside Russia" (2004), etc. Published the monograph "Russian Monostikh" (2016), books of poetry "It's Good to Be Alive" (2008) and "The Art of Hugging Loved Ones in a Dream" (2021), collections of poems have also been published in Ukrainian and Polish translations. Translates contemporary poetry from various languages; books by Yuri Tarnavsky, Thomas Ernest Hume, Louise Glick and Ray Armantrout have been published separately. Winner of the Andrei Bely Prize in the category "For Services to Literature" (2002) and the Poetry Prize for the best critical article (2019). Lives in Latvia.
Mikhail Nemtsev Born in 1980 in Biysk (Western Siberia, Russia). Lived in Novosibirsk for many years, member of the Novosibirsk literary and artistic group "Rechport". Writes poetry, prose, essays. Poems and essays were published in various magazines and in special collections. Since 2023, he has lived in Germany, where in 2025 a book of short essays "Clarity and Joy" was published.
