Andrey Shary (b. 1965) is a Prague-based journalist, writer, and media manager. He has worked for Radio Liberty since 1992. He is the author and co-author of 17 books of nonfiction on the topics of popular culture, history, and contemporary affairs in Central and Southeastern Europe. His recent books include The Balkans: Outskirts of Empires, Czech Time: The Great History of a Small Country, and Love Stories. Czech Novels. His historical and journalistic study For the Nation and Order! Central Europe and the Balkans between the Two World Wars, co-written with Yaroslav Shimov, won the 2025 Enlightener Prize. Just published by Leipzig ISIA Media Verlag An updated version of another popular collaboration between Sharoy and Shimov, "Austria-Hungary: The Fate of an Empire," was first published in 2010 and has since gone through five editions in Russia and Ukraine.
