Anna Narinskaya is an author, curator, documentary filmmaker and activist.
In Russia, she worked for the newspapers Kommersant and Novaya Gazeta as a journalist, literary critic and editor.
As a curator, she created exhibitions in the most famous Russian museums (Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Jewish Museum, Museum of Architecture, etc.), and was one of the founders and curator of the Joseph Brodsky Museum in St. Petersburg.
Narinskaya is the author of the documentaries “Find a Jew: The Search for Identity in the USSR” and “Rock, Paper, Scissors: Ardis Publishing House and the Fate of Russian Literature.”
After Russia's attack on Ukraine, she left Russia and now lives in Berlin, where she writes for the Tagesspiegel and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspapers.
Her play The Last Word, based on the final court statements of Russian female political prisoners, premiered at the Gorky Theatre in Berlin in December 2022 and at the Marylebone Theatre in London in September 2024.
In 2023, she curated the exhibition "There are no such people here. LGBTQ+ in Chechnya today". The exhibition was shown at the Pride Art Berlin gallery and at the UN office in Geneva in September 2024.
