Poems out of control: a big poetry evening / Opening of the Berlin Book Fair / together with media wordsoutyourself and the OVD-info project*
[*the bulk of the proceeds will be transferred to OVD-info]

Three years of terrible war became a time of poetry. Poetry often more accurately than prose or reportage records the destruction in the world and man, conveys pain, fear, anger, helplessness, makes a diagnosis and passes sentence. And helps to survive, without consoling.

Many poets from Russia and Belarus were forced or decided to leave their countries. Our native language is changing and now solves new problems: overcoming borders, communicating vessels, preserving meanings and describing new realities.

We invited authors from different countries and cities, whose poems are read and listened to in Russian, despite borders and distances.

The co-organizer of the evening is words_out_of_oneself, media about Russian texts and books outside of Russia.

The poetry evening will feature:

Dmitry Vedenyapin

Alexander Delfinov

Yegan Jabbarova

Andrey Ditzel

Demyan Kudryavtsev

Dmitry Kuzmin

Zhenya Lavut

Denis Larionov

Daria Ma

Mikhail Nemtsev

Roman Osminkin

Julia Podlubnova

Alyosha Prokopiev

Dinara Rasuleva

Dmitry Strotsev

Elena Fanaylova

Alya Khaitlina

(minor changes in the composition of participants are possible)

The bulk of the proceeds from the evening will be transferred to the OVD-Info project.

The project provides legal assistance to people persecuted for political reasons, publishes news about repressions and maintains databases of government pressure.

OVD-Info was founded in 2011 and remains one of the key sources of information on human rights violations in Russia. According to OVD-Info, almost 1450 people are in prison, and thanks to donations, 100 of them have permanent legal assistance.

The fair is happy to help those for whom what is happening in Russia is not the norm, who could not and did not want to adapt and simply live next to the war, people of courage and dignity.
