Vladimir Sorokin presented "The Fairy Tale" in Berlin—a post-apocalyptic novel about a teenager living in a world after a nuclear disaster. The presentation of the new book took place in the ancient Immanuelkirche church, which barely accommodated everyone who wanted to hear the Russian author speak.
"The genre is powerful, archaic, rooted in the land and history. Perhaps because we live in a fairytale time. It's full of the sinister, the grotesque, and the downright fantastical," Sorokin says of the new book.
When asked about his future plans, the writer replied: "I don't know what I'll write, and most importantly, when. It always happens, like a sudden burst of love... Right now I'm thinking about a novel about Berlin. But the text needs to rest in the pantry, like a Christmas goose: until its neck breaks, it can't be roasted."
